The Deep State never saw this one coming.
It turns out there are consequences to abusing power to hurt Trump.
And one Deep State snitch just got a nasty punishment for his illegal scheme.
The media has been trying to get their hands on Trump’s tax returns for years now, and one member of the Deep State gave them exactly what they wanted.
He leaked the tax returns, hoping that the media would find something incriminating in them that could take down Trump.
Unfortunately for the media, they found no such thing, and the story ended up being a dud. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t any consequences for what happened.
You see, leaking someone’s tax returns is an illegal act and an invasion of privacy. That’s true whether the target is Donald Trump or any ordinary person.
The Deep State thought they could get away with this act because the media has let them get away with so much over the years.
But this time, they were wrong. It turns out that when you engage in activity like this, there really are some nasty consequences.
According to Breitbart, “An Internal Revenue Service contractor accused of leaking the tax information of former President Donald Trump and thousands of the nation’s wealthiest people to news organizations has pleaded guilty.”
“Charles Littlejohn, 38, of Washington, D.C., entered his guilty plea Thursday to one count of disclosing tax return information without authorization.”
“He is to be sentenced Jan. 29, when he faces a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.”
Littlejohn never thought this would happen. He almost certainly had visions of a long career at MSNBC where he would be celebrated as a hero for leaking the documents and collect paychecks as a liberal talking head.
But instead, it looks like he will be in prison for betraying the public trust.
Even Merrick Garland was forced to admit that. In a statement, Garland said, “By using his role as a government contractor to gain access to private tax information, steal that information and disclose it publicly, Charles Littlejohn broke federal law and betrayed the public’s trust.”
The article continues, “The tax returns of the former president were an issue of contention during his first presidential campaign and then during his tenure as commander in chief as he broke tradition by not revealing it to the public. Trump had argued he couldn’t reveal his tax information as he was under audit — an issue the IRS said didn’t prevent him from maintaining the tradition.”
This is a disaster for the Deep State, as they have built their power on having access to information that the rest of society does not.
That is especially true for agencies like the IRS, but also the NSA and FBI, who have been caught invading the privacy of American citizens numerous times in recent years.
One IRS agent tried to take down Trump by illegally leaking his information, but it turns out the only person involved who ended up getting hurt was the leaker himself.
